This sandwich is rich, savory, and packed with so much flavor. Inspired by the classic Chicago Italian beef, the beef cooks low and slow until it’s fall-apart tender, soaking up all the spices, pepperoncini, and giardiniera pickled veggies. And the au jus is perfect for soaking into the bread (or dipping!). It’s super comforting, and paired with a homemade hoagie roll, it’s so, so good.
Tini’s Tips
Cutting the roast into 4 or 5 pieces helps it cook more evenly and faster, and keeps the pan from getting overcrowded.
When cooking, keep the beef at a low simmer so the meat stays nice and tender.
Makes 4 large hoagies (could serve 2 per hoagie depending on how hungry you are)
What You’ll Need
For the Beef
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon garlic powder, plus more for seasoning the meat
